Abbots Langley is controlled by three different councils – the Parish Council, Three Rivers District Council and Herts County Council. We aim to provide input to council plans and decisions which deal with environmental and sustainability issues, and to hold the councils accountable for promised actions to reduce carbon emissions. We do this by making asking questions in council meetings and by making contact with councillors and officials responsible for relevant policy areas,
Abbots Langley Parish Council is in the process of producing a Neighbourhood Plan and require the community’s thoughts and ideas about issues that are important to them.
Three Rivers District Council declared a climate emergency in 2019, and committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 for its own emissions, and to helping the district achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 in line with Government guidelines. Their Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy sets out how the Council can improve and lead by example in their own operations, and how they can work with local residents and businesses to to reduce their impact on the environment, improve sustainability and also adapt to a changing climate.
Hertfordshire County Council also declared a climate emergency in 2019. Sustainable Hertfordshire outlines the County Council’s strategy to tackle climate change and their progress so far.
